What Could I Expect if a Privacy or Security Complaint is Filed Against My Practice?

Based upon the experience of several dental practices, regulators will want to see following information if a complaint is filed:

  • A copy of your HIPAA policies as it related to the disclosure of protected health information.
  • A copy of policies as related to safeguarding patient’s protected health information.
  • Policies regarding training new hires and ongoing HIPAA training for staff.
  • A copy of all HIPAA training for the Dentist and staff for 3 years, including materials and sign in sheets.
  • A copy of your Notice of Privacy Practices.
  • A signed copy of the Acknowledgment of the Notice of Privacy Practices for the last 10 new patients.
  • A digital photo of the Notice of Privacy Practices displayed in the lobby.

Would you be prepared if federal or state regulators contacted your office?
